I did the trail from Smoky Lake to Elk Point lots of fuel stops and bathrooms on trail kinda of boring easy riding. Then I came back from Elk Point and headed to Cold Lake there is a huge classic wood train trussel about 4 kms from Cold Lake that was about the only thing on trail worth seeing and then back to Smokey Lake. Total kms on round trip was 458kms. Glad I did the trip but not something I would do again.
Great trail. Well groomed and maintained. Scenery you just don't get on a highway. Lots of fun.
We tried to ride on mountain bikes from Smokey to Bonnieville. Bad idea! This is so sandy! Like riding a desert or beach. Max speed 5km/hr. You really need an ATV. Everyone we met on the trail had ATVs. One guy with a motor bike was very unstable. I understand that the other leg of the Iron Horse is much better -- over by the the river in Elkwater area.
